Mythical Music!

Mythical Music is my darling boy. He is a 10-year-old dark bay gelding. He enjoys rolling and sometimes, sadly, bucking. ;P He is totally in love with Spar’s and Woolworths’s carrots. Some horse treats also rank high on his list of things he enjoys.

In late August 2016, my riding coach told me that I had outgrown my pony and that she thought it was time for me to start riding horses. In a way my heart was broken, I loved my half- leased pony with all my heart. My coach did not have any available horses for me to ride, therefore I had the option to either buy or full-lease a horse from an outside source. I had a long talk with my father as I really wanted to own a horse, but I knew it to be an expensive option. My father told me if this was my heart’s real desire and that I promised that it was not just something I wanted for the short term, he would think about it. One week later I started looking.

The first horse I rode was named Mythical Music (aka M+M). At first sight, I knew he was the horse for me. The look he gave me just pulled my heartstrings. I started by walking him around in the arena and observed that he is very obedient. The trotting and cantering came and went. When I started jumping, I had a slight fright. He accelerated after landing. It seemed he also enjoyed testing me by reacting too sensitive to my legs.

The second’s name is CT (I’m not sure). He did not appear to be my favourite horse. He was a typical thoroughbred. He threw his head up and down, which made me nervous. After riding I unsaddled him and I had a quick talk to my coach and my mom and I left. When I got in the car I started crying, no one knows why. I think it must have been nerves.

The third horse was quite cute. Her name means ‘Sisterhood’ but for short the people called her ‘Puff’. She was actually quite nice, although she did not respond to my legs. She was the better between CT and herself.

All this time my heart yearned for Mythical Music. I told my trainer about my feelings and she said that she had already organised another ride because she could see my heart wanted him. I had a ride on M+M again just to double-check that he is the one. His current owner was there this time. We had a long talk about M+M. The owner rode him first and after her, I did. Again, it was a wonderful ride. That afternoon I could tell my family and coach I was sure about my decision. I was sure that Mythical Music is the perfect horse for me.

The following afternoon my father called M+M’s owner and told her about our decision. She was very glad that I could buy him because she knew that I would spoil him in a good way. On the Saturday Midfeeds had a massive sale. I thought it perfect to go and buy some goods for soon-to-be my precious horsey. Although his owner said that she would give some things, I thought it good to spoil him with pretty much everything. Everything he now has is brand new.

The ultimate waiting began. I had to wait until that Thursday so that I could get my baby. By then we had already paid and bought some tack for the horse. We went to my riding school first to make the final arrangements. We got one of my coach’s grooms to help us. We drove two minutes to M+M’s stable. The groom had to walk the horse back to its new stable.  Luckily it was close to his new home. It was amazing to see all the other horses’ reaction on M+M entering their territory. All of them came closer to watch him. He raised his head and tried to make himself look bigger and stronger than he really is. We put him in a paddock next to another horse that is also close to my heart. I shall never forget that day.

Sadly we had to fly to Scotland for my World Cup Karate the Sunday. I missed him terribly during my two weeks stay! Time flew while I was there and before I knew it, I was back with my baby boy in his stable.

All of the above happened in less than a month.
